Dracula fans, did you know that Bela Lugosi himself performed at the National Theatre? In 1951, he brought his traveling spook show to Richmond for it’s last performance. Big thanks to Bill Kaffenberger for providing us with all the info about this performance! Below is an excerpt from his book, No Traveler Returns: The Lost Years of Bela Lugosi.
The Spook Show was a stage production that featured a magician performing a variety of increasingly weird and sometimes “bloody” illusions – cashing in on the public’s apparently still active desire for entertainment “horrors” – which culminated in “the black out”, the theater darkened with glow in the dark “spooks” flying about the theater and scaring the patrons. Following the magic show was an on-screen horror film, ironically usually a Bela Lugosi film.
He currently has the 5th biggest country song in the USofA and tomorrow night you can hear him do it live on The National stage! Grab your tixs to see Billy Currington at any Ticketmaster outlet, nattickets.com, or at The National Box Office!
